Mr. Carlson is the managing partner of the firm's Florida office and is a board certified specialist and expert in construction law by the Florida Bar. He is a member in good standing of the State and Federal bars of Florida, the United States Virgin Islands, and Nevada. Mr. Carlson graduated from the Max M. Fisher College of Business at the Ohio State University and earned his Juris Doctorate from Capital University Law School (cum laude). Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Carlson clerked for the United States Attorney’s Office in Washington D.C. In addition to being board certified in construction law, he holds the highest Martindale-Hubbell Preeminent AV Peer Review Rating.
Mr. Carlson’s primary practice is focused on complex tort and commercial litigation where he has successfully represented clients in high value construction, products liability, class action and insurance matters. Recently, Mr. Carlson has successfully represented a contingent of home builders in a 30,000 plus home class action litigation. He has also recently represented a plastic bag manufacturer and obtained a jury verdict and judgment in excess of 10 million dollars on behalf of his client. More recently, he secured a defense verdict for one of the firm’s general contractor clients after a four-week jury trial in Central Florida, after which the court directed a verdict in his favor against the client’s subcontractors, finding they owed the client a contractual duty to defend.
Mr. Carlson has also served as a speaker and panelist on issues effecting complex construction litigation across the United States, as well as methods of reducing litigation costs through case management plans.
